The purpose of the Student Activities program at YUHSG is to create balanced co- curricular education.
At Yeshiva University High school for Girls, the educational process is not limited to the four walls of the classroom. Rather, the learning process combines both formal and informal methods of teaching. Seniors attend “cultural experiences” in Manhattan such as “Irena’s Vow,” a play about a Polish woman who saved many Jews during the Holocaust. Our juniors have the privilege of participating in either Project Ray’ut, a chesed mission to Israel or the Metropolitan Experience, a week of chesed activity here in New York. AP Art students study great classical and modern works of art both in their art class and then on a trip to MOMA. English classes read the great works of American literature and then head to the city to see the play on Broadway.
In addition to the educational experiences our co-curricular program offers, the students at YUHSG are guaranteed a fun, spirited atmosphere on an everyday basis. From the Big Sister/Little Sister apple picking outing, “Pretty in Pink Day” (breast cancer awareness,) grade luncheons, Rosh Chodesh chagigas, Macabbiah on Chanukah, concerts, Color War, grade trips, and much more, there is ALWAYS something to be excited about here at Central. We have a fantastic G.O. and involved Grade Advisors and Grade Representatives who all work together to make sure that there is always something on the horizon for our students to look forward to.
In addition, YUHSG now has an Alumnae Program that is very much a part of student life. Our alumnae not only lead a Beit Midrash program on Fridays for juniors and seniors, but are involved in a variety of other student activities as well. Our alumnae participate in after-school Mishmar, Yimei Iyun, and will often join us for a program or a trip.
Our school wide Shabbaton is the ultimate example of our educational process, successfully combining all the many ingredients that make up student life here at Central. The Shabbaton provides students and teachers with the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships in a relaxed environment filled with spirit and spirituality. Our 2008 Shabbaton was a memorable success made possible by all our student efforts, wonderful faculty, and alumnae. Ms. Shani Hochbaum Student Activities Corrdinator
