The Physical Education Department
General Studies |
Physical activity is critical to the development and maintenance of good health. The goal of Physical Education is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity.
Physical Education is a comprehensive developmental program focused on the education of the whole person. Participation in various activities develops and maintains physical fitness. Physical Education is also a learning experience which develops lifelong, positive attitudes for healthy living. The learning environment provides continued opportunities for personal and group challenges. The instructional program provides activities that will encourage students to discover and broaden their abilities through experiences that allow for maximum development.
Course topics/units include elements of cardiovascular fitness: aerobics, stretch conditioning, power walking indoors and outside, fitness evaluation, fitness goals, Presidential Fitness Challenge, and yoga. Also included in the program are the Physical Education team sports: badminton, basketball, European handball, football, hockey, soccer, softball, and volleyball.
Central Athletics “Wildcats”
To complement our Physical Education program, students have the opportunity to try out for several inter-scholastic sports. All athletic teams are offered on the Varsity level and several have JV programs exclusively for freshmen and sophomores. Our goal is to include as many interested and talented students in the Central Athletic Program as the team size allows. Our teams challenge the student athlete to obtain the physical and psychosocial benefits of participating in team sports.
Varsity Team sports include basketball, softball, soccer, tennis, and floor hockey.
JV Team sports include basketball, volleyball, and soccer.
