The various web pages present a brief overview of the course offerings for this academic year. Course descriptions are presented by department and grade level beginning with Grade Nine. Unless noted otherwise, all are full credit courses.
The Yeshiva University High School for Girls is accredited both by the Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools and by the Regents of the State University of New York. As such, its courses and requirements conform to the standards of the Board of Regents, and examinations in Regents subjects are given in June of each year in a number of required subjects.
It should be emphasized that Regents examinations are given primarily for the purpose of accreditation and are not the primary goal of the General Studies curriculum, which is determined, taught, and evaluated by the administration and faculty of the school. Results of the Regents examinations appear on the official school transcript and are calculated at no more than 20% of the second semester grade.
The following course descriptions are arranged by department with an addendum listing the elective courses. Also, in grades nine and ten, all courses in the curriculum are offered in both Honors and Regular sections. Honors classes are more demanding and enriching, but cover essentially the same basic material. Students are placed in Honors sections on the basis of aptitude and interest. It is possible for a student to participate in a “mixed” track of classes based on individual strengths and weaknesses. Grades eleven and twelve are heterogeneous, except for Advanced Placement courses.
